Woman compares Harrods and Selfridges sausage rolls and gives verdict

Selfridges and Harrods, two department stores held in high regard by the British public, are renowned for their array of designer goods and scrumptious food offerings, albeit at a premium price.

Laura Khoshaba, known on TikTok for her food tasting escapades with her mum, Ann, often from the comfort of their car, decided to stage a culinary face-off between Selfridges and Harrods’ sausage rolls.

Kicking off the taste test, Laura and Ann sampled the Selfridges sausage roll, which Laura described as “looks really good” and “golden”. This was their maiden voyage into the world of Selfridges’ pastry delights.

Laura’s first bite elicited an immediate “mmm”, followed by an enthusiastic: “That is amazing” once she’d savoured the mouthful.

Ann praised the “pastry’s really good,” pastry, while Laura characterised it as “flaky and buttery”. “Yeah, buttery, and it’s not really oily,” Ann concurred.

“And the sausage meat you can see, well, you can just tell that it’s quality”, Ann continued.

“I can’t fault this at all,” Laura confessed, with Ann echoing her sentiments, describing it as “really nice” and “really buttery actually” as she continued to relish it.

“I’ve not had a sausage roll that’s really buttery,” Ann enthused, clearly smitten with the Selfridges offering. Laura then revealed that the Selfridges sausage roll comes with a price tag of £4.29.

Next up was the Harrods sausage roll, which Ann observed “looks drier” than its Selfridges counterpart.

Laura voiced her critique of the Harrods sausage roll, stating “the ratio is off” between pastry and sausage meat. “It’s more sausage meat than pastry,” she grumbled.

She went on to say: “The pastry is less buttery in my opinion, and I prefer the pastry in the Selfridges one, but the sausage meat is very good [in the Harrods one]”.

Ann concurred with Laura’s preference for the Harrods’ sausage meat, but championed the Selfridges’ pastry for its “buttery” quality.

If you fancy giving the Harrods sausage roll a go, it’ll set you back a fiver, though Ann did note that “it’s a decent size”. However, Laura countered that she personally prefers a “bit less sausage meat” than what Harrods offers, as she likes her sausage rolls to be “more balanced”.

“But they’re both really good quality sausage rolls and a good price,” Ann wrapped up their review.

In response to a comment rooting for Greggs’ sausage roll, Laura responded, ” I love that.”

At just £1.30, Greggs’ sausage rolls are a bargain compared to those from Selfridges or Harrods, and their reputation speaks for itself. “Nothing beats a Greggs,” another commenter chimed in.

Another woman suggested trying M&S sausage rolls, noting their buttery pastry and reasonable price of around £3 or £4 for a pack of two. She added, “MandS sausage rolls-I think they say a buttery pastry is nice-a pack of two for around 3 or 4 pounds! You have to heat them up at home, though! Very nice with HP sauce.”
