A Mexican navy vessel hit the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night during a promotional tour in New York City, the top of its mast brushing the iconic span as it sailed through the East River.
The Mexican navy said in a post on X that the Cuauhtemoc is a naval academy training ship and was damaged in an accident with the Brooklyn Bridge.
The boat collided with the bridge around 8:30 p.m. according to police. The extent of any injuries was not immediately clear.
Video footage on social media shows the ship — flying a huge Mexican flag — scraping the underside and its masts collapsing onto the deck.
The NYPD and FDNY could not immediately confirm the number of injuries.
