Joe Biden diagnosed with ‘aggressive’ prostate cancer

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, his office announced Sunday.

Last week, doctors found a “small nodule” on Biden’s prostate and said the 46th president would be undergoing further evaluation. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Additionally, the cancer has spread to Biden’s bones, according to the statement.

Under the Gleason score system, which ranges from 1 to 10 with 10 being most severe, Biden’s case was labeled a 9, his office said.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement continued.

At 82 years old, Biden is in the age range that is at greater risk for prostate cancer. As the CDC notes, “The older a man is, the greater the chance of getting prostate cancer.”
